"THE DOOR OF HOPE" in Tel Aviv

Below fragment of the text from the blog of my friend Abe who was visiting with me the organisation/mission THE DOOR OF HOPE.
"During the bus ride to Tel Aviv, Agata told me she had a meeting with someone that runs a mission for prostitutes in Tel Aviv.  She suggested I come along and I imagined we would go meet the man in a carpeted office where he would speak to us about his non-profit in polite and professional terms.  Instead, when we got to the bus station David, an energetic American man with a heavy Southern accent, met us and said he would show us around the neighborhood. We ended up getting a tour of the prostitution scene in one of the seediest parts of Tel Aviv.  We walked by brothels, observed some dude in big sunglasses arranging a rendezvous with a woman and saw the various places Dave used to live and serve the homeless.  We eventually made our way to his ‘office,’ situated beside dozens of beds where women can come and sleep during the day.  The Door of Hope (click for more info) is the center he runs and serves as mission in the heart of Tel Aviv’s drug and prostitution district.  As a Christian, David is motivated to meet the women where they are and serve their immediate physical needs.  While we were there women came in to eat, lie down or just pass some time in a safe place.  There was a makeshift beauty salon, a room with donated clothes, some workout equipment and a kitchen.  Everything felt a bit makeshift, like a D.I.Y. non-profit venture.  David showed us a harrowing slideshow of the women he works with – images filled with tragic stories and mangled bodies.  However, hopeful stories of changed women who found faith and recovery also shone through in his presentation.."
